Nivada Grenchen, "Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver" Chronograph". Circa 1960s. Fine, water-resistant, stainless steel wristwatch with round button chronograph, and register.  Minute and hour graduated bezel.

Case:  Three body, polished and brushed, lapidated lugs, bi-directional revolving graduated black bezel for the decompression times and GMT, screwed-down case back. 

Dial: Black with applied luminous baton indexes, outermost white tachometer scale, subsidiary dials for the seconds and 35 minutes register with red 5 last minute indicator. Luminous steel arrow hands.

Movement: Valjoux 92, rhodium plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self-compensating blued steel Breguet balance spring.

Nivada was founded in Grenchen (Granges) in Switzerland, in the mid 1920's by Jacob Schneider. The company took off after the second World War under the leadership of Jacob's son Max Schneider who focused his product and marketing on sports and adventure with watches such as the "Aquamatica", a water resistant and antimagnetic watch used  by the US navy during an exploration of the South Pole.

The most famous watch of the company is the Chronomaster "Aviator Sea Diver" introduced in 1963 to compete with the succesful Omega Speedmaster, Heuer Autavia and the Breitling Navitimer. With its name the watch was to be a multi purpose chronograph for both divers and aviator, with a specific subdial for timing oxygen level for a diver but also a bezel with a GMT graduation on the bezel for pilots. nThe watch came in different combination of dial and calibers such the Valjoux 92 and the 234 but also the 7733 and 7755.

Our watch is in like New Old Stock condition with an unpolished untouched case, a crisp tight bezel and insert. An Original dome glass with an immaculate dial with beautiful evenly aged lume and hands. If you want to buy a Chronomaster as it came out of a watch shop in the early 1960s, this is your watch.
